• How to Make Artisan Goods and their Crafting Stations - this covers every artisan good in Stardew Valley, lists what you need to collect to begin producing, and how much more those items will be worth when made into final products.

Stardew Valley: Artisan Goods

Making Specialty Goods from Materials and Produce

The preserves jar makes jelly and pickles, while kegs make wine, beer, juice, and pale ale. Artisan crafting lets you make goods more valuable, instead of selling them raw.Players may, of course, sell raw produce and materials they create in Stardew Valley. However, you can take it one step further and create Artisan Goods by using your fresh ingredients. Items like cheese, beer, cloth, and wine sell for a higher value due to the extra time put into them. The following is a list of all the artisan crafting stations you can make in Stardew Valley, what types of items they accept, how long it takes, and how much more money you'll make.

How It Works

Access the crafting tab (Esc) and build one or more of the artisan objects listed below. Preferably the right amount you need based on capacity. Place goods inside by holding them and clicking the building, and you'll automatically start the structure's timer. When it's done, you can click to harvest the Artisan Goods.
Tappers and Bee Houses make their goods on their own and only require you to harvest, while others require a fruit, vegetable, or other product to function. Making artisan goods is a very good idea during Stardew Valley's winter, assuming you've saved up items to convert. It's a chance to make extra money during the worst season of the year.
None of these are affected by the initial quality of ingredients you use. Some of these don't have star-quality values, others do. Players who take Tiller as their farming level 5 profession get to choose the Artisan profession at level 10 that increases the price of artisan goods by 50% - this includes pretty much everything in this list.
In many cases, you can use the pickaxe to relocate these crafting stations and put them in a more desireable area. All estimates for the time it takes to make something are inexact, and may sometimes come up to 1 day earlier.

Ale, Beer, Wine and Juice

Make With: Keg (Farming Level 8)
Each Keg Requires Wood (30), Clay, Copper Bar, Iron Bar, Oak Resin
Production Time: 2 Days (Beer/Pale Ale), 4 Days (Juice), and 7 days (Wine)

The Ale is a workhorse and will help you get double or triple your value out of fruits, vegetables, wheat and hops you produce on the farm. Beer is made by placing wheat inside, Pale Ale is the product of hops. Juice is made using any vegetable, and wine is made with any fruit. Only place expensive fruits inside for wine, given how long it takes and that your keg is tied up until it's done. See tappers below for how to get Oak Resin. Beer and Pale Ale sell for 200 and 300g. Juice is 2x the vegetable's base value, and Wine is 3x the fruit's base value.

Cheese and Goat Cheese

Make With: Cheese Press (Farming Level 6
Each Cheese Press Requires: Wood (45), Stone (45), Hardwood (10), Copper Bar
Production Time 3 hours

The cheese press takes regular cow and goat milk and turns it into cheese. You'll get plenty of hardwood when you upgrade your axe to steel and can access the secret woods, so making as many presses as you have cows becomes possible. The other needed materials are trivial. Goat cheese is worth more (up to 450G) but you only get half as much goat milk as you do cow's milk. Making either type into cheese earns you 30-50% more than you'd get out of the raw product. It is worth pointing out that cheese is an excellent healing item for exploring the mines.

Cloth

Make With: Loom (Farming Level 7)
Each Loom Requires: Wood (60), Fiber (30), Pine Tar
Production Time: 4 Hours

The loom makes wool you've gained from sheep (reliable, every morning) and rabbits (random chance of dropping) and makes it into cloth, which sells for a flat 375g. It's certinaly possible to set up a number of these and keep them working to make cloth for you. Make an amount equal to the number of sheep you have, shear them every morning at feeding time, and put the wool on the loom.

Honey

Make With: Bee House (Farming Level 3)
Each Bee House Requires: Wood (40), Coal (8), Iron Bar, Maple Syrup.
Production Time: 4 Days

Plant a flower near a bee house (within 5x4 tiles) and the bees will automatically work to produce honey. Multiple Bee hives can work a lone flower, so you can surround just one flower with bees houses then harvest the honey every 4 days. Place a sprinkler next to the flower to make it hands-off.

Make sure you can count 5 squares away from the bees to the flower. Also ensure that your farmer can get within 1 tile in order to harvest the honey. Remember, you can harvest 1 square diagonally!Efficient design means placing the flower in the center and surrounding it with bee houses. As you can see above, you'd be able to reach all of the beehives in order to harvest honey, and also change out the flower depending upon the season. The amount of money generated by the honey is based upon the flower you used. The most profitable types, by season, are Blue Jazz (Spring), Poppy (Summer), and Fairy Rose (Fall). Faster-growing flowers produce a less-profitable honey. Plant them on day one of the season and you'll get more honey out of it. Bees won't produce honey during winter, so there's no point in putting them in the Greenhouse.

Jelly and Pickles

Make With: Preserves Jar (Farming Level 4)
Each Preserves Jar Requires: Wood (50), Stone (40), Coal (8)
Production Time: 2 Days

The preserves jar is great for low-value fruit and vegetables. Preserves or Pickles will be created based up which kind you put inside. It's not hard to make a long row of preserve jars and have them working constantly. Pickles and Jelly sell for 50 + 2x the base value of the produce you put inside.

Maple Syrup, Oak Resin, and Pine Tar

Make With: Tappers (Foraging Level 3)
Each Tapper Requires: Wood (40), Copper Bar (2)
Production Time: 8 days (maple), 7 days (oak), 5 days (pine)

Tappers can be placed on one of the three types of trees and will give you the loot based upon where it's mounted. Creating a number of these and hanging them on trees is recommended to help you get them in quantity for use as crafting and cooking materials. The raw goods do sell quite well (200g for maple syrup) given you only need to visit a tree once in a while to get them.
You can create farms for these by planting rows of trees with two-block gaps between them, keeping the area clear, and mounting tappers when they're matured (which takes about 12 days). Tappers can be removed by hitting the tree one time with the axe.

Mayonnaise

Make With: Mayonnaise Machine (Farming Level 2)
Each Mayo Machine Requires: Wood (15), Stone (15), Earth Crystal, Copper Bar
Production Time: 3 Hours

Eggs' value can be quadrupled by using the Mayonnaise machine, and it gets done well inside one in-game day so you can make it multiple times if you have enough eggs stockpiled. Duck eggs create a more valuable mayonnaise, which can be worth 450g for gold-star quality.

Oil

Make With: Oil Maker (Farming Level 8)
Each Oil Maker Requires: Slime (50), Hardwood (20), Gold Bar
Production Time: 6 Hours for Truffle Oil, 2 Days for Oil (cooking)

The oil maker accepts corn, sunflower, and sunflower seeds to make oil. The sunflowers are a renewable source, since they drop seeds when harvested. This one is listed because it is indeed an artisan good, but it's not very profitable. Neither type is worth much more than the base value of the produce, and especially not when they're gold-star quality. Cooking oil can be bought, making your own is moderately useful. Truffle oil can be used to make rain totems (though they're expensive one-shot items).

  • How to Get Copper in Stardew Valley - teaches the basics of finding copper ore and coal, building a furnace, and crafting copper bars.

Stardew Valley: Copper

How to get Copper Ore, Find Coal, and Craft a Furnace

You can find copper in the mine, once you brave its depths and explore. There are over 100 levels with escalating difficulty.Players looking to find Copper in Stardew Valley may be at first confused, because the stones on the farm do not really drop it when you hit them with the pickaxe. Aside from buying it for inflated prices from the Blacksmith on the eastern side of Pelican Town (75g per ore is 375g per copper bar, of which you'll need around 5 to upgrade a tool), the main way to get this metal is to go looking for copper directly in the mines. Once you've got that, you may be confused on what to do next. This tutorial will show you how to find copper and get copper bars from it, which are needed to upgrade tools and craft various structures for the farm.

How to Get and Make Copper Bars

  1. Wait until day 5, when you have access to the Mine.
  2. Enter, take the starter sword from the head of the Guild and begin searching the mines for copper veins.
  3. With 20 Copper and 25 Stone, you can now make a Furnace.
  4. Have one Coal in your inventory and at least 5 Copper
  5. Hold the Copper ore and click on the Furnace to turn the 5 Copper into a Copper Bar.

Where to Find Copper: The Mines

Coal is sometimes found in mine carts inside the mine. Otherwise, you'll get it at random when breaking rocks. Going on a lucky day increases your odds. These are found on the far Northeastern side of town. It's fastest to get there by going through the top exit of the farm, then heading East until you see the bridge. The first backpack upgrade for 2000G in Pierre's store is highly recommended before going past ~level 10+ as you will begin to collect far more items than you can carry. The mines get progressively harder as you go deeper. By killing monsters, you'll level your combat skill. Mining ore will help to level that associated skill as well. Progress is made in the Mine by finding the ladder down, which can be used any time it's revealed. On each pass through a level look for anything useful, kill a few monsters, then begin breaking rocks etc. until you find a ladder. On to the next. You'll know copper ore when you see it, and most useful items do stand out there. Be sure to break any barrels, crates, and click on any mine carts/satchels for the chance at some coal.

Make a furnace using the crafting menu. You have to do this even if you buy your own copper ore.Combat is relatively easy in Stardew Valley, you can take food to help heal your character. Cooked foods are best, but any fruit or vegetable will do. You will not find an abundance of copper until level 25+. Thankfully, every 5 levels in the mine you will find an elevator. You can use the ladder/elevator to leave any time immediately to level 0. When you return to the mine, you will be able to use the elevator to go back to the last level you visited ending in 5 or 0. Take care not to pass out or 'get killed' in the mines, because you can lose items and money. Some will be returned to you via mail shortly after your 'accident', depending whether you passed out (just lose gold) or get knocked out by a monster (lose some items and gold). You can always escape to a ladder and return to make progress later. Leaving by around midnight (preferably a little earlier) is advisable, because it takes about an hour to get home.
Always water your crops before venturing into the mines. You've essentially got to keep going back until you can either afford to buy copper ore to combine with what you've found, or have enough coal to craft the bars (1 coal per bar). Always follow any rails you see in the mines. You're likely to come across a cart with about 10 ore inside. Don't worry though, you will find more and more coal the deeper you go in the mine. By around level 40-50 you should have plenty of everything and start to find even better metal ore with more frequent drops of coal.

Crafting a Furnace to Make Metal Bars

Click the furnace with copper in hand (and coal in your inventory) to turn the ore into purified bars.Whether you buy your copper ore or find it yourself, you'll need to make a furnace to smelt the copper into usable bars. Hit ESC to bring up the menu and go to the crafting tab. There you can find the Furnace item. Putting this on your hot bar, you can place it nearly anywhere you like. It takes about 30 seconds to turn 5 ore into one bar. This is done by holding the copper and clicking on the furnace. It should fire up and, when the wait is over, you've got your bar!

Crafting Coal: The Charcoal Kiln

At Foraging level 4, you get the ability to craft a Charcoal Kiln. This converts 10 pieces of wood into 1 coal after about 30 seconds, and it is a godsend if you've had bad luck with coal drops. However, you must come up with a gold bar to make it. Gold ore can be bought from Clint the Blacksmith for 400g each, totaling 2000 for one gold bar which could be used to make the Charcoal Kiln. So long as you have the one charcoal needed to make that, you should have an infinite supply given your ability to plant seeds and grow trees.

  • Trees: Planting and Farming Them - Covers regular and fruit trees, the spacing needed to plant your own, and what you can get from them in the form of oak resin, pine tar, and maple syrup. Also includes pictures of the three normal trees to help you tell them apart for the purpose of using tappers.

Stardew Valley Trees

Planting Maple, Oak, Pine and Using Tappers

Tappers are used to get resources from trees in the form of oak resin, pine tar, and maple syrupThe three main types of tree in Stardew Valley each have a purpose, though they can be hard to tell apart. As you may want to setup tappers to harvest pine tar, oak resins, or maple syrup, it can be handy to know what type of trees you have on the farm. I'll also cover planting trees and how you can ensure they'll grow to maturity at the fastest pace.

Woodcutting

When you've cleared your farm, you can always plant more treesThe three main types of tree will begin dropping seeds at level 1 Foraging. This means you can plant your own trees and harvest them for lumber that is used for crafting objects and farm expansion. It takes about 15 hits to completely remove trees at first, but with a better axe you can get it under half a dozen swings. With extra foraging levels, it will make removing a tree and collecting wood take less than a quarter of the initial energy cost.

Planting and Growing Trees

Trees can be planted every other square. Throughout the growing cycle, make sure the area around them stays cleared of any debris or other trees.Normal trees must be placed every other square, in a pattern like TXTXTX which must also be repeated on a vertical level. They grow all year round and only take at most 12 days to mature, so long as the one empty space is cleared once it's become a sapling. In fact, you can ensure trees on your farm will grow by clearing other trees and debris around them with your farm tools, stopping the saplings from competing with one another.

Planting and Growing Fruit Trees

Making an orchard requires you to space trees like those pictured above. They grow any season but the area must stay clear. They have a harvest season and some will put out fruit every day.Stardew Valley lets you plant apple and other types of fruit trees which grow all year round but only put out produce one season per year. This means 28 harvests per year per tree. Fruit Trees require 2 spares in all directions to be clear, so they must be planted with 2 empty squares between them (TXXTXXTXXT) with the same amount of space on a horizontal level. The game won't normally let you plant them too close together. Fruit trees give one fruit each day. Large orchards are expensive to set up due to the saplings costing thousands each but are certainly a nice thing to have around because of their low maintenance. The cost means it takes quite some time for them to pay off, regardless of when they're planted. Fruit trees start producing gold star produce as they age and fertilizer is not needed, nor tilling of the ground. An old orchard can be quite a money-maker but will take up a lot of space!

Tappers for Oak Resin, Pine Tar, and Maple Syrup

Oak, Maple, and Pine Trees can all be fitted with tappers to provide you crafting resources and cooking ingredients. Craft a tapper (or several of them) from the menu (Esc > Crafting tab) to use tappers. Telling the trees apart is essential to getting the items you need. Simply hold the tapper and walk up to the tree and place it on the square occupied by the base of the tree. The schedule for getting resin, syrup, and pine tar all differ but you can get more details below. Simply walking up to the tree and harvesting it like you would any crop will give you the loot. Hitting the tapper one time with an axe will remove it and return it to your inventory.

Maple Trees

Fully Grown Maple Tree in the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter SeasonsChop Maple trees for wood, sap, and maple seeds. They produce Maple Syrup when outfitted with a tapper. They will then make syrup every 7-8 days, valued at 200G. You can grow more by planting maple seeds. These trees are easiest to tell apart during summer, as they have the glowing sap in their branches.

Oak Trees

Fully Grown Oak Tree in the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter SeasonsChop Oak trees for wood, sap, and acorns. They produce Oak Resin when outfitted with a tapper. They will then make resin every 6-7 days, valued at 150G. You can grow more by planting acorns.

Pine Trees

Fully Grown Pine Tree in the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter SeasonsChop Pine trees for wood, sap, and pine cones. They produce Pine Tar when outfitted with a tapper. They will then make tar every 5 days, valued at 100G. You can grow more by planting pine cones.

  • Using the Seed Maker for Wild Seeds - the Seed Maker can be used to get seeds in winter, and is helpful to completing foraging bundles at the Community Center.

Stardew Valley: Seed Maker

Foraging Skill XP via Seasonal Seeds

Seed Makers turn produce into seeds, which can generate random forage crops from that season. For players looking for crops to grow during Winter, the Seed Maker comes to the rescue. Aside from the wild seeds you get from the Seed Maker, nothing else can grow during that season. This fun little item lets you get seeds out of four particular fruits, which can be used to grow the other forageable produce from that season.

Making a Seed Maker

Crafting a Seed Maker takes 25 Wood, 10 Coal, and 1 Gold BarCrafting a Seed Maker means making it to Farming Level 9. That seems rough, but it's actually one of the first skills you're likely to get to level 9 and certainly doable in the first year if you focus on crops. The Seed Maker requires 25 wood, 10 coal, and a gold bar. You can buy 5 gold ore from the Blacksmith to make it - you'll need a furnace, to smelt the metals. You do not need 4 as pictured above, because the seeds are ready in just a few minutes. Just a couple of these can put out seeds at a really fast rate.

Using the Seed Maker

Putting four types of foraged items into the seed maker creates different types of seeds:
  • Spring Seeds: Use Wild Horseradish
  • Summer Seeds: Use Spice Berry
  • Fall Seeds: Use Common Mushroom
  • Winter Seeds: Use Winter Root
It only takes 10 minutes of game time to make seeds (so several real-life seconds). Use these to get free crops. The Seed Maker puts out 1-3 seeds and may even spit out an ancient seed for you, though they are rare. These seeds can be used to complete bundles, but must be grown during the correct season.

Getting Winter Root & Other Seed Maker Produce

Getting Winter root with the Hoe in Stardew ValleyFinding Wild Horseradish and Spice Berries are fairly obvious. They're on the ground all around Stardew Valley's world. Look around the town, north of it, and in the woods south of your farm. The mushrooms are found in the forest and Secret Woods. If you've made the cave into a mushroom farm, that's another option for getting Common Mushrooms. Winter Root, on the other hand, is buried. Use the hoe on tillable soil. You can find that inside Pelican Town and on its beach. The latter is the best place to get it. With a Steel Hoe I was able to dig up 22 winter root in one day, thanks to the upgraded hoe's ability to till up 5 tiles at once. What is more you can come back daily.
Another place to find Winter Root before the season begins is inside the mine in the colder levels around 40-70. Doing that, you can have winter seeds on day one and put the winter root back into the seed maker to continue the process! Planting and harvesting the wild seeds you get WILL provide foraging skill experience, just not as much as finding them out in the world (which gives a little over double foraging xp).
